Look, you'll still be on the same ship as the kids, the hoopla, and all the Carnival-style excitement... Yet, it doesn’t even compare to specialty venues like Onda on NCL or Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen on Royal Caribbean. Down on Deck 8 in the 820 Biscayne zone is the Miami Slice pizzeria. While not the best pizza at sea, it features five different options and remains open until the wee morning hours for late night snacks. Next door, there’s also the Deco Deli which features 12 different sandwiches. Guy’s Burger Joint remains one of the best takeout burger joints at sea. On Carnival Celebration, this venue has been enhanced with more seating and a larger counter for quicker service.

Featuring classic and contemporary Latin music, this production fell short when compared to the great entertainment offerings on other cruise lines. While better than the main dining room, both restaurants had rather simple menus and lackluster food preparation, especially when compared to other cruise lines. Like other newer mega-ships, Carnival Celebration has several smaller pool areas to disperse crowds. This central Lido pool is the liveliest space with music, afternoon sing-alongs, and other Fun Squad events. Nearby are several outdoor eateries and the two-story RedFrog Tiki Bar. As a professional traveler, it's not a huge surprise that one of my favorite public areas on the ship is the travel-themed The Gateway.
Surprisingly, our balcony felt much larger than the advertised size. It might have been due to our location, as Deck 10 includes additional rail space when compared to the decks above it. The balcony was deep, with plenty of room for two chairs and a small table.
The program will launch on Celebration before later being rolled out fleet-wide. The ship will also feature new food and beverage options like travel-inspired bar Latitudes and Emeril’s Bistro 1397 from Emeril Lagasse, serving international cuisine. If you’ve been on a cruise before, you know how chaotic the buffet restaurant is. Walking around the huge area several times to find a table, trying to find your family, people walking every direct and cutting in line, is all part of the experience. We didn’t find the main dining room service or food the best, and we only ate there several nights on our 7 seven-night cruise.

But Carnival’s complimentary dining options came with an unwanted side-order of visible hostility. Perhaps the most difficult aspect of Carnival Celebration relates to the onboard service from its 1,735 international crewmembers. Don’t expect terribly cerebral diversions; Carnival is all about FUN, and it does a commendable job of shouting it from the rooftops. Expect thudding poolside music, raucous games and a healthy dose of irreverence in everything the line does. However, we found ourselves missing the generous size of Carnival’s bathrooms of the past.

It’s a cruise that almost everyone can afford, and cruising aboard Carnival Celebration with family and friends is a treat indeed. For some, it may very well be their first introduction to the world of cruise travel. Most of Carnival’s staterooms are designed with families in mind, too. That modern styling continues too in stateroom bathrooms, which are crisp and well-designed and finally shed the horrifying pinks and pea-soup-green plastic molding found on past ships. Gone, too, are the cylindrical showers with the clingy curtains, replaced instead by a generously sized shower with an articulated door that slides out of the way when opened. In typical Carnival fashion, its neon-blue and orange Body Wash and Shampoo are located in pump-dispensers mounted to the wall.
